I've Just Applied

Crossing my fingers...

The Stats Have Been Compiled,

the announcement has been declared. I was the co-MVP of the league for the 2005 season.

Kinda.

I was declared co-MVP with another person on our team by our coaches. They then declared us the c0-MVP's of the league because we had won the league. So it was a unilateral decision. Not that I'm complaining.

We were supposed to have a tournament today, but that was washed out, so the coach ended up at home going through all the stats from last year. My season long line came out to: (All are team highs, except the ones in parantasis, which are tied for team lead. Also, I tried to explain some of the terms, for those of you that spell your name totally wrong and do not know what a baseball is. I tried my best, hope you can understand it.)

26 Hits (hit the ball and reached safely)
55 Plate Appearances (total times facing pitcher)
50 AtBats (Plate Apperances that did not result in sacrifice or walks)
31 Times Reached Base (total Plate Apperances that resulted in me reaching first base safely (Walk, Hit, Error, Fielder Indifference, etc.)
.980 slugging percentage (of total Hits [Singles + (2 x Doubles) + ( 3 x Triples) + (4 x Home Runs)] divided by (AtBats))
19 RBI (Runs Batted In; how many runners scored directly from my Hits, Sacrifices, Walks)
5 Doubles (Hits resulting in reaching second base)
4 Home Run (Hits resulting in me reaching home, again)
1 Grand Slam (Home Runs with bases loaded)
12 Extra Base hits (Hits other than Singles (Doubles, Triples, Home Runs)
7 Multi Hit games (games with more than one Hit recorded)
2 - 4 Hit games (games with 4 Hits recorded)
(1 - 3 Hit game) (games with 3 Hits recorded)
49 Total Bases (for each Hit, total number of bases reached (Single=1 Double=2 Triple=3 Home Run=4
(15 Games played) (out of 16 games)

So there you go, that's why I was declared co-MVP. Pretty sure the other guy was MVP also because he was a good pitcher as well as a pretty decent hitter. That just means I have to learn how to pitch fastpitch softball style.

And on a completely unrelated note, I just finished a long trip with some interesting moments, and you know what that means: there's gonna be another list at some point. I've gotten a few ideas down, I just haven't gotten to the point where I want to type them up yet. But they shall be coming. I don't know when as I have one part that's from my travels in Mississippi during October, so there ya go. Keep your eyes peeled and this page bookmarked.

And if you have no idea what I'm talking about, take a look at this, this started it all off. You know, after I stole it from Tim Keown.

Wait, Is It That Time Again?

So I keep getting emails, emails about practice. And that can only mean one thing. Softball season is upon us once again. What started out as a 'help, we need a player' for one game two years in a row, to actually becoming a real player on the team, to becoming co-mvp last year. Not really sure who the other MVP was, but then again I wasn't told I was one of the MVPs until just recently, so who knows.

But softball season is upon us, which means I'll be playing a sport again. Which is awesome cause I don't like to actually work out (and I'm pretty sure it shows). Last year I only played on one team, and then another towards the end of the year. This year, however, I'll be playing on two teams, one in southern Carroll County and one in Southern PA. The PA team has a tourney this weekend that I shall be attending, until I have to go to work, that is. (I think my boss is punishing me for going to SC as I have to close, as shift manager, Friday and Saturday night. What a bummer. Especially Saturday. And there's no possibilty for a milkshake. Major bummer and a half.) But this tournament shall be fun, as it will show me how much I really should have done something this year, besides sit around and do nothing.

I Need To Live Where The Stars Don't Shine

Or something like that.

I spent the last weekend in D.C., well actually I was drugged and dragged into the city by a band of hooligans. But just because I was there against my will doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it. We took the subway into the city in order to go to the D.C. Zoo. Or national zoo. Whatever. At least it isn't the 'National Zoo presented by Kodak' or something like that. That would have made me mad.

But after the zoo we had to walk a block or seven to get back to the subway station. (Is it just me or does it seem like the D.C. Metro Agency is trying to please everyone when they name stations? For some reason there are a lot of names for each station. It's not like '5th and Wisconson'. Nope, it actually names the local attractions, even if there are four of them. That makes each name backslashed out the wazoo. So there's a lot of writing, but I guess it makes easier to know which station to get off of. But still, that's what maps are for.)

But back to the walking to the obscenly long subway name. It was a very pretty day, and there were quite a lot of people out. And just being able to walk the street, with the wall-to-wall buildings lining the street (which I really like, I might add) and it seemed like everyone out either running, walking or eating at a local cafe. I've never been able to experience that, but of what I saw that short little walk, I liked. It was probably because I was in a ritzy area, one I wouldn't be able to afford to live in at the moment, but that's not the point.

And I don't know what the point is. But I want to be able to live in an area where I can walk to almost every place I want to go. Gotta go to class? I'ma gonna walk. Need some bread at the store? It's on the corner, I can walk there. Gonna go to the bar? That's on the other side of the city, but I can walk down to the subway station and I'll be there in ten minutes. Also, it makes for a great designated driver. Much cheaper than a cab.

And I don't know where I can live that would make for this to happen, but maybe I should check it out. I'd like to live somewhere that has a good undergraduate architecture program, at the least, and a full graduate program at the most. A city that has a decent public transportation system so I don't have to worry about driving many places and can give the car a break.

Or maybe I should just move to Istanbul. Wouldn't that be an experience in itself?
